Dr. LaVar J. Charleston is the Assistant Director and a Senior Research Associate at Wisconsin’s Equity and Inclusion Laboratory (Wei LAB) housed within the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) at the University of Wisconsin—Madison. In his role with the Wei LAB, Dr. Charleston oversees the lab’s research operations, while managing a team of junior research associates. Dr. Charleston also teaches in the department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Education. His research focuses on the educational and career trajectories of underrepresented populations into highly technological domains, advanced degree completion among underutilized groups and their navigation through higher education systems, and efforts to broaden participation for underrepresented groups in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in higher education and the scientific workforce. Dr. Charleston has served as the associate editor for the Annuals of The Next Generation journal and as the assistant director for development and marketing at the Center for African American Research and Policy (CAARP). Dr. Charleston currently serves as an editorial board member for the Journal of African American Males in Education (JAAME), and was previously a member of JAAME’s review board.

Samuel Rebenstorf is the LAB Manager for Wisconsin's Equity and Inclusion Laboratory (Wei LAB). He provides coordination of the day to day operations within the LAB, as well as administrative duties related to the LAB's fiscal, personnel, academic, and general services. Sam is a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelorís degree in political science and economics. He is currently pursuing a Master of Public Affairs degree at the Robert M. La Follette School of Public Affairs where he focuses on studying policy analysis and social policy.
Rebecca Polar is a research and technical writer for the Wei LAB. She is responsible for grant writing, donor and partnership development, and written communication, among other responsibilities. A native of Merill, Wis., Rebecca is a graduate of the University of Arizona with a bachelorís degree in geosciences.
Christopher T. Moss
Translational & Commercialization Specialist

Christopher Moss is a translational and commercialization specialist with the Wei LAB. He is responsible for developing commercially viable products and disseminating educational tools and products.
Moss is a native of Jackson, MS, and a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelorís degree in music education. He also has a masterís degree in educational leadership from UWĖMadison and is pursuing a Ph.D. from UW ĖMadison in educational leadership & policy analysis with a minor in corporate finance. Previously, he taught percussion throughout the US and managed a nonprofit music group in New Jersey. Most recently, he worked in the accounting and finance field in New Orleans.

Na Lor is a Research Associate at Wisconsinís Equity and Inclusion Laboratory and a Ph.D. student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. Her research focuses on predominantly white institutions (PWIs) and the non-dominant students they serve; probing at how the cultural values and cultural practices of PWIs create different supports and barriers to degree attainment for students who hold membership to the majority groups vs. minority groups. She is a doctoral advisee of Associate Professor Dr. Rachelle Winkle-Wagner and an Education Graduate Research Scholar.

Ibrahim Bicak is a Research Associate for Wisconsin's Equity and Inclusion Laboratory (Wei LAB) and a Master's student in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (specialization in Higher, Post-Secondary, and Continuing Education) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research interests focus on college access and success for underrepresented students, focusing on those who are first generation college students from low-income families.

Hilary Gehin is the Editorial Associate for Wisconsin's Equity and Inclusion Laboratory (Wei LAB). She provides support in copy editing research papers and publications, as well as drafting magazine articles and other public relations materials for the Wei Lab. Hilary is a cum laude graduate of Coe College with a bachelorís degree in biology. As a 2014-2015 Fulbright recipient, Hilary spent nine months in Turkey where she taught English and served as the chief editor for Amasya Universityís annual science department publication. She is currently pursuing a Masterís degree in Life Sciences Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Casey Donart is the Communications Specialist for the Wei LAB. She is responsible for promoting and enhancing the Wei LABís mission and professional presence via the labís website, e-newsletter and social media accounts, as well as handling communicational and promotional materials. Casey is currently a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying Journalism and Strategic Communication with a certificate in Digital Studies.
